A pair of shoes seems like a given for most, but there are thousands of children out there, who have never owned a pair of their own, until a local hero did something about it.
Dario Gouveia was a nine year old boy with a big heart. It all started one day when he took a trip with his mom to the shops to buy him new shoes. He saw a child around the same age as him, kicking around the gravel with no shoes.
The barefooted child was standing with his mother, who was begging for money. This made a huge impact on Dario.
“His feet where worn and cut, which made me think of how many kids need shoes. I went home got my green cross fit shoes and gave them to the kid... the smile and joy that he gave me motivated me to collect more shoes”.
Dario set out to collect 1 000 shoes through his campaign “Sole to sole”, but he has since, gathered over 4000 pairs of shoes for children in need.
He has now bumped his target up to 10 000 pairs of shoes and continues to keep giving.
His new strategy is around Mother’s Day. Dario is collecting socks and shoes to hand out to mothers who live in and around Jacksonville.
A boy, who was motivated by giving, has become a true local hero.
