Vuyani & Lungelwa Kama started a farm 12 years ago and on that farm, they had just 17 cows and 70 hectares of land. Fast forward to 2018 and they have over 200 cattle, 700 sheep and fields full of maize.
It wasn't always like this, when Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR)started all she had was a small group of cattle a nowhere to graze them until the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) made a piece of land available to her and supplied her with a few farming tools.
With the help of the department, she was well on the way to becoming a success with her strong will and determination. Her farm is called Mt Elton and is near Ugie in the Eastern Cape.
Like many farming stories, the beginning was a very delicate time and there were many stumbling blocks to overcome but Lungelwa persevered a stuck with it and was rewarded in the end.
She was mentored and supported by Grain SA which helped her with advice in business and crop production.
Her success has been attributed to her determination and love of farming.
