Two sisters in the Free State province have achieved the rare milestone of being both centenarians.
Leiketseng and Mamathinya Makhalanyane are aged 100 and 101 respectively, Briefly.co.za learned. Mamathinya marked her 100th birthday on March 17.
Speaking to Dailysun.co.za, the sisters said the secret to their long lives are prayers and drinking a glass of milk every day.
Gogo Leiketseng said:
I thought I would have been dead by now, but what my parents taught me has worked for me. I was taught to be respectful, pray, drink a glass of milk a day and to enjoy sorghum beer. I don’t bother my kids or grandchildren because I can still do things for myself.
She was blessed four children and nine grandchildren. She keeps fit by working on her spinach garden.
For her part, gogo Mamathinya said:
I may be an old woman but I’m still energetic. I try to live my life to the full and ensure that I stay away from alcohol.
I have 10 kids and my husband was a bishop. My secret to a long life is mealie meal and lots of dairy products.
