Zakhele Madida, aka Zakes Bantwini, a singer, record producer and businessman, turns 41 today. Zakes is best known for creating the Durban Kwaito music (DKM) genre, which combines house beats with Kwaito lyrics.

Because of his public life, his love life has been scrutinised, however, Briefly News can safely say that he and Nandi Madida are one of the couples who try really hard to avoid too much controversy and concentrate on their work together.

1. Rumours of divorce from his wife Nandi Madida

When Zakes Bantwini and Nandi Madida declared the dissolution of their union, it shocked everyone. No one could have predicted this from one of Mzansi's power couples.

However, it soon became clear that they weren't getting divorced but were only removing Nandi from their joint estates. All of their property is owned by Zakes and Nandi doesn't have any assets.

2. Claims that people in his family died because of loadshedding and Covid-19

Zakes said that four people he knew who were hospitalised and on ventilators died as a result of power outages caused by loadshedding. Zakes Bantwini expressed concern for the many other people who could have died as a result of power outages.

People were shocked at how much a person of his calibre could possibly deceive people and they flooded his comments section with their disbelief.

3. Doing charity work for a good cause

To raise cancer awareness, AKA and Zakes Bantwini competed in a 7-a-side celebrity soccer match. Zakes Bantwini, who lost his mother to cancer in 2007, founded the 1GoalForCancer initiative.

Bantwini has made it his task to raise cancer awareness since then, reminding us of the importance of regular medical check-ups.

Briefly News previously reported that Zakes Bantwini reflected on the painful past and friendship in a sad throwback post. Musician Zakes Bantwini broke hearts on the timeline when he shared a painful memory from his past.

Taking to social media, Zakes spoke about a painful day where he lost one of his friends. He reflected on the day he was in a car accident and his friend, unfortunately, didn't make it. The friend who passed away was DJ Sibusiso Manyandu, who was popularly known as DJ Budda.

He worked very closely with Zakes in the past and they formed a record label along with a few other friends.
