Alcohol Industry Not Impacted Heavily by Adjusted Alert Level 2, Say Reports
- The alcohol industry is reportedly relieved after President Cyril Ramaphosa did not mention a ban on alcohol sales on Sunday evening
- The curfew in SA has been shortened and gatherings have also had stricter measures put in place
- However, the aforementioned regulations will not have a heavy impact on the sale of alcohol in the country

Reports have revealed that the alcohol industry has shared that it was relieved after President Cyril Ramaphosa's Nation Address on Sunday, 30 May. There have been no changes made to the sale of alcohol in the country.
Although the country's curfew has been shortened and gatherings tightened there were no separate announcements made in terms of alcohol restrictions. Sales of alcoholic beverages thus remain open.
The National Liquor Traders Council stated that the alcohol industry had taken extra steps to ensure it complied with SA's lockdown regulations.

According to eNCA, the Council called on the public and liquor outlets to keep their eyes open and adhere to Covid-19 safety regulations. The Council's Lucky Ntimane stated that they were committed to working side-by-side with those in power so that non-compliance is established and taken care of.
News24 reported that last week, SA Liquor Traders called on the government to not bring forth another alcohol sales ban. This followed a release of a report that highlighted the increase in illicit alcohol sales in the country.
The report continued by saying that the alcohol industry has, in the past, strongly opposed the ban on sales of alcoholic beverages.

Previously, Briefly News reported that Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Sunday evening. He started his address reminding South Africans that it had been a while since he had addressed the nation on Covid-19.
President Ramaphosa said that Covid-19 infections have increased significantly over the past week. As a result, South Africa will be moving to an adjusted Alert Level 2, from Monday, 31 May.
