The family of late Soul City star MacDonald 'Mac' Mathunjwa has provided information about his memorial service. Mac's family, friends, and fans will assemble at The Springs Theatre in Springs, Gauteng, to pay their respects to the venerable veteran actor.

MacDonald passed away earlier this week as a result of problems with Covid-19. In a statement to TshisaLIVE, the star's family detailed how he died. Mac was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after suffering from breathing problems on Saturday, and died on Monday night.

The memorial service will be taking place at the Kwa-Thema Old Age Home in Springs, Gauteng on Friday, 4 June. The memorial service will be live-streamed for those who wish to join in the celebration of Mac's life, according to the family.

Over the course of his decades-long career, the actor portrayed a number of memorable roles, but many will remember him for his portrayal as Oupa on the TV comedy Khuleka, in which he helped teach South Africans about elections and the constitution.

Intsika, uGugu no Andile, Soul City, Stokvel, and Home Affairs were among his many television appearances.

The legendary thespian's death was confirmed by his daughter Zanoxolo Mathunjwa. She took to social media and shared that she was heartbroken after her father's death. The star was best known in Mzansi for his role as Vusi in Home Affairs and Rev Phiri in Bone of Bones.

Zanoxolo posted on Twitter:

"RIP daddy, #heartbroken. MacDonald Ndodana Mathunjwa passed away today."
