5 Celebs who care more about others than money

Celebs obviously make a lot of money, and they often show off their riches on their social media accounts.

But, there are those who use their wealth to better the lives of others, despite people believing they're spoilt and snobby.

The thing is, a lot of celebs have causes close to their hearts and they often help to either raise money for charities or donate it themselves.

So, Briefly.co.za gathered five celebs, international and local, who have given large sums of money to charities.

1. Nicki Minaj

Although Minaj often sings about herself, the rapper is known to be kind to others.

W24 reported she is also a popular advocate for education and empowering women, which is why she helped some of her fans get the opportunity to pay off their school fees.

She held a competition for a few lucky fans to win the chance to fly out and meet her at the Billboard Awards.

One fan commented on the competition, asking Minaj to help him out with his study fees.

Not only did she offer to help him, but she made a competition where she would pay any student's tuition fees, if they could prove they were serious about their education.

Other than helping young people achieve theirs dreams, Minaj also sends a small town in India money to help them establish a computer centre, a reading programme and water wells.

2. Nomzamo Mbatha

South African celeb Nomzamo Mbatha has been known to help out charity initiatives, but she’s used her own money to help the less fortunate.

Mbatha gave a whopping R60 000 towards Shoprite’s #ShareForGood initiative.

She partnered up with Kwa Mashu's department of social development to help make #ShareForGood a success.

The initiative aimed to give buckets of food packets to the needy.

3. Bonang Matheba

Another SA celeb on our list is Queen B, who gave away bursaries to students.

The South African media personality is a firm believer in quality education and she decided to dig into her own pockets to help out those in need.

And, she even threw them a celebratory lunch to celebrate their future success, while spoiling them with gifts.

4. JK Rowling

For those who might not know who JK Rowling is, she is the famous author that brought the world the Harry Potter series, among other books.

With the Harry Potter franchise making insane amounts of money, Rowling scored a place on Forbes' list of billionaires.

However, she was not long on the list since she gave so much money away to charities that she lost her billionaire status.

It's e was reported that she gave R2 billlion away in just one year alone. She even set up her own charities called Volant and Lumos.

5. Chance the Rapper

The rapper has been committed to bettering the lives of others. After Illinois governor Bruce Ruener frustrated residents over school funding, Chance donated $1 million (R11.8 million) to Chicago schools.

He added additional an $10 000 for every $100 000 donated towards school funding.
