Sydenham police officers, Constable Lungile Pamla and Constable Sibusiso Chili were lauded with praise after they refused to accept a R5000 bribe from a pair of suspects that they arrest for being in the possession of drugs and an illegal firearm.
While the officers were processing the suspects at the local police station another man approached them an apoligised for his friends and offered to give the officers R5000 to drop the charges.
Constable Pamla asked the man to leave. The man placed the envelope containing the R5000 on the table and walked away.

The man was promptly arrested and charged with corruption and all three suspects appeared in court and were released on bail.
The acting station commander Colonel PN Govender congratulated the officers for their integrity and said:
“I hope this sends a clear message that criminals cannot buy their way out of trouble and that Sydenham cops are not for sale. Anyone attempting to bribe an official is just as guilty as the official receiving the bribe and will definitely face the full might of the law.”
