Meet Mabidikama a self-taught sculpture with insane talent

Mabidikama Motaung is a 75 year old man from Dikebu Village near Makapanstad, North West. He has an incredible talent for carving things from word, a true artist in his own right.

In a report by the DAILYSUN, Mabidikama state that he believes that he has been blessed with this talent from his ancestors.

“I developed a passion and love for painting and sculpting years ago after I visited the Pretoria Zoo.”

“I saw many inspirational artworks carved from wood at an exhibition there.”

“I was amazed at how beautifully the artworks were made. That is when I got interested.”

“The madala started to collect wood and turn it into art. “

“Wood carving is not easy. It is a particular art form that needs a special skill and talent.”

“My work includes frames and wall decorations.”

“I’m mostly inspired by nature.”

Briefly.co.za learnt that he is extremely popular and many people stop to admire and purchase his work.

His work is generally sculptured around animals, hunters, ocean storms, water rescues and fishermen.

His work is produced from slabs of wood such as poplar, oak and pine. He has big plans for his pieces.

“I plan to find a place where I can show people my work and exhibit it.”

He is extremely passionate and talented, and deserves the recognition for his master pieces that he creates from hand.
