A past picture of EFF leader Julius Malema apparently hanging out with alleged gangsters has sparked debate about whether he can claim the moral high ground or not.

A Twitter user, who identifies himself only as Joburg Lawyer, posted the image on 25 March, Briefly.co.za gathered. He accompanied it with the caption:

Here’s the #EFF CiC #Malema hanging with Mikey Schultz (killer and gangster), Adriano Mazotti (gangster and cigarette smuggler), and Muhammed Muhammedu (Pakistani human trafficker). And he claims the moral high ground over #ANC and #DA.

The tweet garnered over 600 retweets and close to 400 likes. Some Twitter users called it "old news," suggesting that it has no real bearing on current issues.

Others seemed to suggest that "birds of a feather flock together." See more reactions below.
