- Gwede Mantashe, while debating the land issue, called for the situation not to be exaggerated
- While local and international communities express their concerns, Mantashe called for calm
- The minister also said with regards to the situation in Hermanus, that anarchy should be dealt with by law enforcement agencies
Since President Cyril Ramaphosa's first cabinet reshuffle, Gwede Mantashe has become more than just the ANC's mouth piece.
Now the newly appointed Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede opened up about the land issue during a debate recently.
Mantashe has called for the situation not to be exaggerated, despite the fact that there's major fear among South Africans about further land grabs, not to mention the worsening situation in Hermanus.
But, Mantashe is still calling for calm as local and international communities expressed their concern for the safety of white South Africans during the process.
Briefly.coza learned tat Mantashe said the policy is not to drive white people to the sea, adding it will never be the policy of the ANC, 'unless the ANC becomes something else'.
Meanwhile, Mantashe also said some white farmers have become greedy with the land, adding they snatch free land the minute it goes up for sale.
“When a person is greedy and takes every piece of land for himself, that person should be the first for expropriation because he doesn’t need land.”
Mantashe reiterated Ramaphosa's stance, saying no land expropriation will happen in a way that will harm the economy.
Mantashe also said, with regards to Hermanus, that “anarchy” should be dealt with by law enforcement agencies.
