uMama Esther Mahlangu gives Jozi Newtown a pretty amazing new lick of paint

- Esther Mahlangu is known for transforming walls, streets and even cars with her amazing Ndebele inspired art

- Esther’s work has taken her across the globe, but recently she returned to Johannesburg

- Her latest work is an absolutely huge mural in Market Square in Newton, Johannesburg

Esther Mahlangu is best known for her Ndebele inspired art, her works can be found across the globe. uMama Esther transforms walls, murals, streets and even cars into absolute works of art.

Last year, New York City commissioned Esther to transform a bicycle station and street corner with her amazing work. BMW has used her twice for its Art Car projects.

Esther has returned to South Africa to work on a project in Newtown, Johannesburg. She was commissioned to give parts of Newtown a fresh lick of paint.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa unveiled a massive mural created by Esther in Market Square, Newton.

Esther said although she has been working on projects around the world for many many years she still got excited about every new project she undertook.

She says painting is her passion and the only thing she ever wanted to do.

"I grew up painting from an early age. I love painting with all of my heart and it is my passion," she said.
