Super Mario Game Created in 1996 Sells for Over R21m at Auction, Breaks Record
- A 1996 Super Mario cartridge has made history as it sold for a record high price of $1.5 million (R21 806 613.84)
- Heritage Auctions revealed that there are not up to five of the cartridge in good condition all over the world
- With that price, Super Mario 64 became the most expensive game ever sold, the NES comes second at $870,000 (R12 691 560)

If you had your childhood in the ’90s before the age of social media, then the Super Mario game may have been your thing. It was such a favourite game on consoles that functioned with cartridges.
BBC reports that a copy of the Super Mario 64 was auctioned for over $1.5m (R21 806 613) at a record-breaking price. The cartridge was made in 1996 and was very popular with the Nintendo console.

What a record sale
The organisation behind the action, Heritage Auctions, said that there are less than five copies of it in a good condition.
Days before the Mario auction, a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) cartridge sold for $870,000 (R12 691 560) on Friday, 9 July, as it became the second most expensive game.
It should be noted that the game maker has since re-released a switch version of those games because of their popularity.
We never expected it
The media noted that rare copies of popular games are really valued. It should be noted that Super Mario 64 was the most sold cartridge of the Nintendo 64 system.
The Guardian reports that it sold after getting a 9.8 A++ rating.
Heritage Auctions said that it was very surprised by the high sale of the game as more focus was placed on The Legend of Zelda. In recent times, auctions of popular games have been getting big sale prices.

Sneaky ant 'breaks in' to a jewellery shop and leaves with an expensive item
Earlier, Briefly News reported that a video that first went viral years ago showing an ant going away with a small but expensive piece of diamond off a desk in a jewellery shop has got newer reactions from people online.
It should be noted that the video is owned and was first shared by Viral Hog. In a re-post done by Daily Mail in 2021, the insect was dragging off the stone as it would a piece of sugar. In a rush to quickly gets its task done, it kept rolling it without taking a break.
An employee saw it
The ant was almost going to be successful if not that an employee at the shop quickly noticed the hilarious 'heist'.
