- His clients describe the exercise as therapeutic
A man in Hollywood, California, has a very unusual job — he is a people walker. This means that he walks people, literally, for a living.
Chuck McCarthy shared details of his job in a video posted on Facebook by 60 Second Docs Presents, Briefly.co.za learned.
He said he gets paid $7 per mile (1.6km), which is roughly R82 per 1.6km, to walk with people and give them a listening ear.
In the video, Chuck said he has been doing this business for about a year now. He explained the thinking behind it:
Some people try to write it off as silly, but the heart of it is exercise and companionship — two things that are invaluable.
One of Chuck's clients described the value of walking with him:
I really like walking with Chuck because it broadens my horizons. In a way, it's therapeutic. It gives me an opportunity to talk to someone and listen to what they have to say as well.
Chuck absolutely loves his job because he also gets to lose weight and meet new people.
