- Former President Jacob Zuma said he’s pleased that Winnie Madikizela-Mandela will receive the kind of funeral she deserves
Zuma was greeted by a small group of African National Congress supporters outside Madikizela-Mandela’s home in Soweto when he visited her home.
He addressed the media after paying his respects to the family, and said Madikizela-Mandela’s passing was a shock.
Briefly.co.za learned Zuma said he hadn’t even heard she had been admitted to hospital, but praised President Cyril Ramaphosa for declaring an official funeral for her.
“I must express my appreciation that the president has given Madikizela-Mandela a funeral service that she deserves. She was/is a national heroine.”
Zuma referred to Madikizela-Mandela as a national hero several times, and said her contributions couldn't be ignored.
Former Springbok Captain, Francois Pienaar and several religious leaders also visited the home on Wednesday.
