As South Africa continues to mourn the loss of one of its true legends and mother of the nation, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the African National Congress (ANC) has called on women across the country to honour Mam Winnie on Friday.
The ruling party has asked all women to wear black with a doek, beret or head scarf in memory of the great woman.
The country was shocked by the sudden passing of Mam Winnie on Monday, she was 81 years old. Mam Winnie will be remembered as a fearless freedom fighter.
Briefly.co.za discovered that the ANC made the call for women in South Africa to honour Winnie through its various social media pages. The requests have been viewed and shared hundreds of times.
The ANC announced a 10-day period of mourning in honour of the fallen icon.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Winnie would receive a national official funeral, which will take place on 14 April. An official memorial has been scheduled for 11 April.
Ramaphosa said South Africa owed a huge debt of gratitude to Winnie. He said: “As we say in African culture, a great tree has fallen.”
