South Africa’s swimming wunderkind, Chad le Clos, has won his first gold medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Le Clos won the 50m butterfly event in a time of 23.37 seconds.
The win is South Africa’s first gold medal in the pool and third medal of the competition. Team South Africa currently has two golds and one bronze medal.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Le Clos beat Trinidad and Tobago's Dylan Carter and compatriot Ryan Coetzee to the gold.
Le Clos will be in the pool again for the 200m freestyle event. Le Clos is attempting to rewrite the Commonwealth Games history books by becoming the person with the most medals at the games.
He is now only five medals away from the all-time record of 18 medals which is held by Mick Gault and Philip Adams
