- Babes Wodumo’s dad has set the record straight about her relationship status
- Taking to Drum, he said no one has come to ask for her hand, which was mandatory in their culture
- However, he added she was big enough to make her own decisions
Rumours have been doing rounds that Babes Wodumo was either engaged or already married and the huge rock she sported on her ring finger recently did not help put them to an end.
Wodumo was pictured with her rumored bae Mampintsha at the launch of his solo single, Amaketanga.
Fans noticed the huge ring she wore on her left hand, which they assumed was an engagement ring. But, Wodumo denied it and said it was “just swag”.
It seems she’s really into swag lately, because she was seen wearing the ring last week as well.
However, speaking to Drum magazine, her dad talked about the rumours, shedding some light on his daughter’s relationship status.
According to the dad, in their culture the man’s relatives must ask permission from the bride’s family with a lobola ceremony, and that has not happened in Wodumo’s case.
“To be engaged in my culture means a man sends his family to negotiate a prize for the bride and that has not happened for her,” he said.
However, he added his daughter was responsible for her own choices, so if she secretly got engaged or married it had nothing to do with others.
“If Babes wants to have a secret engagement or marriage, that’s her business. I can’t force my values on her because she’s old enough to decide for herself.”
Rumours started last year when Wodumo said in an interview she was engaged to her bae of seven years but did not wear a ring because of privacy issues.
People speculated she’s engaged to her record label boss, Mampintsha, but neither have given any confirmation yet.
