- Ronaldo has called it the best goal of his career
- Zuma's goal was declared the goal of the decade in 2009
- Both goals required an huge degree of skill and timing
Social media and the internet at large has been abuzz with Cristiano Ronaldo's overhead kick goal against Juventus earlier this week.
It is worth remembering that it is not the first time such a goal has been scored and Sibusiso Zuma did it all the way back in 2001.
On top of all of that overhead goals are scored all the time on sports fields around the world by athletes as young as 10.
Ronaldo's goal was quite spectacular nonetheless due to the fact that his boot intercepted a cross goal kick from Dani Carvajal.
The Portuguese soccer star admitted that it was the best goal of his career.
In comparison to Sibusiso Zuma's goal context is very important. Zuma's goal was scored in the biggest match in Denmark, the New Firm derby on the last day of the season which won the match and the Superliga title for Copenhagen.
Zuma's goal was also scored from much further out in combination with a chest and overhead kick. That alone requires a great degree of skill.
It was voted goal of the season and later in 2009 it was declared the goal of the decade. To this day the South African player is remembered in Denmark as "Zuma the Puma".
