An 18-year-old girl living with albinism is taking the fight to her Facebook bullies who openly discussed selling her for muthi.

Sphindile Angel Gumede, from eSikhaleni in KwaZulu-Natal, came across two Facebook users commenting on her photo.

One of them asked for her location. This prompted the other one to say that a witchdoctor from Tanzania allegedly "buys" people with albinism for as much as $2.5 million for muthi.

Sphindile added a comment and said:

Lol how funny you two are... So you think you're going to kill me? Shame, I feel sorry for you because even in your dreams you won't touch me, so if you're poor, relax and remain poor.

The Grade 10 learner at Mdlamfe Secondary School also opened a case against the Facebook users at a local police station, Briefly.co.za learned.

Speaking to Zululand Observer, Sphindile said several more threats were made on her life on Facebook:

I was shocked to see people discussing their evil plans on an open platform. I want them to be caught and be accountable for making open threats against my life. I am human and don’t know why people would want to sell my body for their evil ways.

Sphindile added that beyond social media, she also endures constant harassment in her community. She plans to start a campaign to teach communities about albinism:

I will not be intimidated and I am not afraid, and will continue to fight for people like myself. I won’t rest until these people are caught and we are all safe from them.
