Photos of people bowing before a religious leader, praying at his feet has gone viral and South Africans are fuming.
Prophet Jacob Mackenzie of the Empowerment City International Church in Bloemfontein, shared photos of one of his services on Facebook.
The photos show his congregation bowing before him, while they touch his feet to pray. The pics quickly went viral and South Africans were enraged about it.
According to citizens, the photos painted a picture of church members worshipping the prophet instead of God.
Briefly.co.za learned the Daily Sun attempted to contact the religious, but their attempts proved futile.
They did however speak to the church spokeswoman, Sbongile Memani, who defended the prophet.
“The people were not worshipping the prophet. They were just receiving an anointing,” she said.
According to Memani, the prophet was on stage explaining the Bezalel anointing when people left their seats to touch him.
“We gave him a chair when he wanted to demonstrate. He did not call on anyone to come up to him. People just left their seats and came to touch him.”
