Research has shown that MTN has the best mobile network in South Africa, the network has the best download speeds and also tops the network quality scores.
The report shows South Africa has an average download speed of 20.03 Mbps. MTN achieved a national average of 24.12 Mbps, Vodacom came in second with 21.26 Mbps, Cell C achieved a speed of 15.95 Mbps and Telkom Mobile came in last with 15.20 Mbps.
The report, which was compiled by MyBroadband and forms part of its Q1 2018 Mobile Network Quality Report. The average download speeds were calculated using 143 537 speed tests conducted through MyBroadband’s Android application.
Briefly.co.za discovered that MTN also topped the network quality score, which is calculated using a range of performance measurements.
The Network Quality score out of 10 shows how the various networks perform in relations to each other. MTN scored 9.92, Vodacom 9.02, Cell C 6.72 and Telkom 6.54.
All four networks performed as expected in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The only exception here is Cell C scoring lower in the Network Quality index in Cape Town than Telkom.
