- Thuli Madonsela has wished former president Jacob Zuma a happy birthday, this despite spending years grilling him about state capture
- He, in turn, accused Madonsela of passing the buck by not completing the state capture report and calling for a commission of inquiry to finish investigations
- Zuma turned 76 on Thursday 12 April 2018
The former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has wished former president Jacob Zuma a happy birthday, this despite her years grilling Zuma about his involvement in corruption and state capture.
During her time in office, Madonsela played a crucial role in exposing alleged by Zuma’s administration. In 2016 she released her State Capture Report, which detailed accusations of improper relationships between Zuma, certain government officials and the Gupta family.
Zuma attacked the state capture report and accused Madonsela of passing the buck by not completing her investigation and instead, recommended a judicial commission of inquiry be established to complete the task.
The old saying goes time heals all wounds and it would seem that Madonsela is willing to let bygones be bygones or at the very least, she is proving that even people who don’t get along can act still show respect to one another.
Briefly.co.za discovered that Madonsela tweeted her happy birthday wishes to Zuma and to the Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan.
Zuma celebrates his 76th birthday while Gordhan turns 69.
It remains unclear what Zuma thought of the birthday wishes from his former adversary or if he even received the message.
The ANC has as yet not made any mention of Zuma’s birthday through any of its official social media accounts.
