- Karen conquered her emotional-eating demons and took control of her life
- She had tried every diet and pill on the market
- What she really needed was a different perspective on life
Karen van Zyl is about to take part in her first IFBB Bikini Beach Competition later this year. The 47-year-old revealed that she had fought a two-decade battle against emotional-eating.
Her weight fluctuated and yoyo-ing diet routines were getting her nowhere and the solution was not a miracle diet by self-belief.
Briefly.co.za learned that the challenges that Karen overcame are common among many men and women who fight a losing battle to either lose or gain weight and sometimes fluctuating between the two extremes according to goodthingsguy.com.
Karen's emotional-eating started during her divorce in 1997, she went from a carefree unhealthy student lifestyle to losing an extreme amount of weight.
Three years later she found her current husband and she fell back into an unhealthy lifestyle and gained weight, eventually becoming the heaviest version of herself.
After 17 years of poor eating habits, lethargy, sleepless nights and exhausting every pill and miracle diet on the market, Karen realised what she needed to change.
What she needed was not a special diet but a change of perspective. She had been trying to lose weight for the wrong reasons and not for herself. Once she realised that the only person she needed to impress was herself she gained control of her life again.
After months of hard work and hours of running and gymming, Karen is ready to compete in the IFBB.
