African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Collen Maine said he is ready to come clean about his relationship with the Gupta family when he is inevitably called to testify before the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture.
In a shocking revelation, Maine said North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo introduced him to the Gupta family. He denied that former president Jacob Zuma facilitated meetings between himself and the Guptas.
Maine made the comments at a memorial service of the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela held in North West province earlier this week. Maine said unlike himself and many other ANC leaders, Madikizela-Mandela had never met the Guptas.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Mahumapelo’s office declined to comment on the allegations. His spokesperson said: “Premier Mahumapelo has said that he will not react, he will want to afford Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s family to mourn her in dignity.”
Mahumapelo has also been accused of personally authorising North West Health MEC, Thabo Lekalakala’s Gupta sponsored trips to India, a week after the North West department of health paid millions of rand to Gupta-owned businesses.
Maine’s comments come barely a month after deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo finished assembling his team which has been tasked with probing the state capture scandal.
