- Moraka said Maine did not deserve to be called a comrade
The African National Youth League (ANCYL) is in turmoil as its leaders face off against each other in a war of words. ANCYL deputy secretary-general Thandi Moraka has labelled the league’s president Collen Maine a sell-out.
This comes after Maine revealed that North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo introduced him to the controversial Gupta family and facilitated meetings between him and the family.
Maine said he was willing to reveal the true extent of his relationship with the Guptas if and when he is called to testify before the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Morake took aim at Maine during a memorial service for the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Thursday. She said Maine did not deserve to be called a comrade.
“He is a sell-out of note. Immediately after Nasrec comrade Collen went to comrade Cyril and said to him that as the youth league we want to apologise for having supported comrade Nkosazana‚” Moraka said.
She said the league had never given Maine a mandate or permission to make such an apology.
“We want to state it categorically here … that apology was not representing us as the youth of this country. We believed in comrade Nkosazana and we cannot be crucified for having supported a woman‚” she said
Maine has not commented on the matter.
Meanwhile, Mahumapelo’s spokesperson said the premier would not comment on Maine’s claims until after Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral. Mahumapelo faces tough questions about his own links with the Gupta family.
