Nelson Mandela Bay metro police officer Luyolo Nojulumba was the police officer who caught the baby girl after her father threw her off a roof.
Briefly.co.za reported earlier a Port Elizabeth man has been arrested after he flung his child off the roof of a shack in a standoff with police.
But now, the hero cop who stood ready to catch her is speaking up. According to Nojulumba, his only concern was the little girl's safety- he wanted to make sure she does not fall.
The incident took place at the Joe Slovo informal settlement on Thursday after police were sent to demolish shacks build on municipal ground.
Nojulumba was sent to the informal settlement for crowd management during the demolition, Eyewitness News reported.
The father climbed on the roof of his shack, taking his baby with him. A police officer followed him and it was there were he threw the child off the roof.
It is reported he would was charged with attempted murder and would stand trial on Monday in the New Brighton Magistrates Court.
