The EFF and the ANC are reportedly in talks with each other after the funeral of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. There are rumours of a possible alliance.
One of Madikizela-Mandela's dying wishes was that the ANC and EFF could work together in national interest.
ANC NEC member Fikile Mbalula spoke at the funeral and said that the party would honour her wishes and return Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, to the ANC.

Malema addressed Mbalula's comments during his tribute at the funeral.
"Mama, you said to us we must come back to the ANC, we heard you. But which ANC do we go to? Of the same people who sold you out? Of the same people who were ready to give you the enemy?"
It is believed that a "partnership" between the ANC and the EFF will not happen before the 2019 national elections.
