The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Louis Jansen van Rensburg has opened a case of crimen injuria against a Standerton municipal employee. The employee allegedly made a racist comment on the social media page of a local newspaper.
The newspaper reported about the death of Standerton DA Chairman, Johannes van der Wath, who passed away after suffering a heart attack. The comment on the report was: “Nothing is sad here, whites must die vele bayizinja.” (Roughly translated, they must die because they are dogs)
The comment on the article was made on 3 April 2018. Standerton SAPS spokesperson, Captain Fanie Nhlabathi confirmed that a case of crimen injuria was opened on 12 April and said the matter was being investigated.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the employee has distanced himself from the comments and on 13 April he posted the following message: “Greetings good people, please note that my account has been hacked.”
The message goes on to explain: “In case you find funny, nude and unacceptable pics, messages, comments please find my apology and please let me know so I can attend to those while I am still in the process of getting assistance with my account.”
Jansen van Rensburg said: “People, who make such statements, especially someone who is an employee at the municipality, should not be allowed in our society.”
Whether or not the employee’s account was hacked or not, social media has once again exposed just how racially divided the rainbow nation has once again become.
