- Sameshni once weighed over 80kgs
- She was also diagnosed with HIV, became alcoholic and used drugs
- She turned her life around and shed 25kg
A South African lady has shared how she turned her life around after being overweight and discovering she was HIV-positive.
Writing on sleekgeek.co.za, 36-year-old Sameshni Moodley said she weighed over 80kg at the start of her teens.
The corporate insurance professional said her weight made her feel lonely and sad. She also had few friends and wasn't chosen to participate in sports activities in school, Briefly.co.za learned.
Although Sameshni joined a gym and tried to shed weight, she suffered a psychological setback when she was diagnosed with HIV in 2008. She explained:
I started binge eating more frequently, drinking excessively and experimenting with drugs to try and cover up my feelings and to forget. I drank until I was numb and couldn’t feel anymore.
Fortunately, an inner voice encouraged her to turn her life around, which she did.
With help from a therapist and dietician, she began to pay more attention to her diet, which now includes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, fish, and skinless chicken.
Sameshni also took up a strict gym regimen, running, and yoga. She has managed to shed an amazing 25kg.
The fitness enthusiast credited her family and boyfriend for their support.
Sameshni hopes her story would inspire others to also overcome their challenges. She wrote:
Remember that you are not alone. Ask for the support of family and friends and you may be surprised by their reactions.
I am just an ordinary woman who turned her life around and you can do it too! You have everything within to deal with whatever you are faced with in life.
