Social media is a wonderful thing. It allows people to follow the lives of those they admire, and sometimes gives tweeps a front row seat to the drama.
On Thursday, Fikile Mbalula posted a meme on Twitter directed at Helen Zille, to which she responded, "Hi Fiks, what does this refer to?".
Other than the fact that Zille is calling the former police minister 'Fiks', tweeps found the whole situation amusing.
And, in true Twitter style, tweeps' comments lit up the discussion, with ingenious memes rolling in.
But, it got really interesting when Mmusi Maimane decided to step in. Tweeting to Mbalula, the DA leader asked how he answered the phone when Atul Gupta called.
"Setlogolo Sa ga Atul. Please inform me, when Atul calls, how do you answer? Do you say, uncle or number 1, or President? Which is it?", Maimane replied.
Tweeps were both shocked and amused by how politicians slammed each other on social media.
"When SA rappers stop beefing on Twitter, politicians take over. Just wondering if they're also doing it for the culture.", one tweep replied.
It's not the first time the DA leader and the former minister took jabs at each other on Twitter. In last year Maimane slammed the then-police minister for wrongfully arresting a group of men said to have been responsible for the so-called Cape Town massacre.
