Former president Jacob Zuma’s soon to be seventh wife, Nonkanyiso Conco, has reportedly been asked to resign from her position at women’s empowerment organisation, She Conquers. Conco was the national treasurer and communications officer for the organisation.
The organisation seeks to improve the lives of teenage girls and young women by tackling the HIV infection rate among this vulnerable sector of society. The board of She Conquers was shocked to learn about Conco’s relationship with Zuma and said their relationship was at odds with the principles and message of the campaign.
“We fully respect her traditions and we are not stating who she should marry or choose to love. However, looking at the betterment of the campaign and young people, we need to ensure we walk the walk,” said She Conquers national executive committee (NEC) chairperson Lerato Morulane.
Briefly.co.za gathered that She Conquers earlier confirmed they had received Conco’s letter of resignation. She Conquers NEC deputy chairperson Leonora Mathe said the organisation stood for the empowerment of young women and their independence.
“We are not saying Jacob Zuma was her blesser – however, to a young person, they would think this [type of lifestyle] was OK to get ahead in life.
“We are not being personal with her resignation, we are respectful towards her cultural beliefs and practices, but this affiliation is contrary to the principles we stand for.
Mathe said Conco had failed to inform her or the NEC about her relationship or who the father of her unborn child was at their last meeting in November.
It is understood that Conco gave birth to Zuma’s son on his 76th birthday, two weeks ago in Hillcrest Private Hospital in Durban. It is believed to be Zuma’s 23rd confirmed child.
The former president is currently married to Zuma is also married to Sizakele Khumalo (MaKhumalo)‚ Thobeka Madiba-Zuma and Bongi Ngema-Zuma.
