Friday 20 April 2018, was a celebration most people never get to celebrate! A golden wedding anniversary celebrated by Eddy and Lynne Barker (nee Young). After walking down the aisle 50 years ago, Eddy and Lynne Barker got time to look back on their time spent together.

A blind date organised by friends, at a hotel in Berea Road, was the couple’s first date.

The date might have been ‘blind’ but a spark was ignited between the two love birds. Before they knew it, they were to be married.

In 1968, the wedding was held at the Assumption Parish Catholic Church.

From October 1963 to December 1972, Eddy served in the Navy ACF. While employed as a production manager in Pinetown for 25 years, Eddy also worked as a councillor at the New Germany Council

Been an avid golfer, in 1998, Eddy got a hold in one at the Cato Ridge Golf Course.

Dedicating all her time to her husband and three children, Hayley, Kevin and Wendy, Lynne was a home executive and stated “I believe I was blessed to be home to be there for our children.”

It was in 1996, that the couple took ownership of Bears Pre-Primary School in Ashley. The school has been flourishing for 22 years under the ownership.

Lynne loved dancing in her younger years. This passion was passed down to her two granddaughters.

Their eight grandchildren are the light of their lives.

Living most of their married life in the Highway area, Eddy and Lynne relocated to Cape Town for a year and a half. The move was not for them and they have since returned and living in Gillitts.

According to this amazing couple, lots of patience and honestly is the key to a successful marriage. They look forward to spending the rest of their lives together.
