- Fans beat up Sabelo Maziba and left him unconscious
- He recovered and was discharged from hospital
- Jessica Motaung visited him in Durban
Kaizer Chiefs' Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung, has visited the security guard who was beaten by fans during the recent pitch invasion at the Moses Mabhida stadium.
Sabelo Maziba was left unconscious after fans descended on him after the Kaizer Chiefs vs Free State Stars Nedbank Cup semifinal match on Saturday night. Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-0.
In a tweet posted on its Twitter account, the club expressed relief and gladness that Sabelo is recovering well. Sabelo is seen with Jessica in a picture accompanying the tweet.
Rumours initially suggested that the unconscious security officer was a woman and that she had passed away.
However, stadium management released a statement debunking these rumours. It indicated that the five people who needed hospital treatment had been discharged.
The club issued several statements on its Twitter account condemning the violence, wishing the affected speedy recovery, and applauding those who tried to stop the chaos.
Its chairman, Kaizer Motaung, also appealed for love and peace in a video. Jessica is his daughter.
The PSL has charged Amakhosi with misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute. It set the disciplinary hearing for 3 May.
Police also arraigned a man, 32-year-old Phelelani Jojisa, in court on Monday for his alleged role in the pitch invasion.
