The 100-year birthday anniversary of late former president Nelson Mandela is only a couple of months away, and although he died five-years ago the world would never forget his legacy.
In fact, former American president Barack Obama announced he would be speaking at Madiba’s 100th birthday.
Nelson Mandela was such an inspirational figure, not only in South Africa but the entire world, that Hollywood A-lister portrayed his life in a feature film.
But, shockingly, not everyone knows who the legendary anti-apartheid activist and struggling stalwarts was.
Take for example Jonathan Bernier, a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender.
While attending an event that celebrated Madiba’s life in 2014, Bernier was asked what he knew about Nelson Mandela, however, the hockey player gave an answer no one expected.
“He is one of the most known athletes in the world and a lot of impact in any kind of sport that he did. Even playing hockey, everyone knows him. From being the type of person he was off the ice and on the ice. But you know he changed a lot while he was with us. He’s a tremendous guy.”, he answered.
Bernier later apologised, saying he was embarrassed and did not mean to offend Mandela’s legacy.
Since then, the blooper Bernier had settled down, until Yvonne ChakaChaka found it and posted on her social media account. It soon started circulating again.
