- Priscilla's son fell ill and had to use public toilets at Blue Lagoon beach
- To her surprise, she found the toilets spotlessly clean
- She tried to tip Esther, the hardworking loo cleaner, but she declined the tip
A mom in Ethekwini, KwaZulu-Natal, has shared a heartwarming story of how a loo cleaner works hard to keep public toilets clean.
Writing on Facebook, Priscilla Doig said she was at Blue Lagoon beach to help with a cleanup activity when her son fell ill and had to use the toilets.
Most public toilets are usually "awful," she said, and she dreaded taking her son there. However, she was plesantly surprised to find them spotlessly clean.
What a surprise when I entered the toilets at Blue Lagoon. They were spotless. I have never seen such clean public toilets, ever!!! Wow!
She tried to tip the loo cleaner, Edith Mkhize, "for the extra care and attention and pride she took." However, Edith respectfully declined the tip and said:
How can you tip me for doing my job! This is what I should be doing!
This left Priscilla even more impressed. She congratulated Edith for the pride she takes in her job and hoped Ethekwini Municipality would recognise her.
Readers of her post also commended Edith. See some of their responses below.
