- The Zulu Wedding movie is highly anticipated
- However, the book version is available nationwide
- The movie's director, Lineo Sekeleoane, commissioned Dudu Busani-Dube to write it
A high-powered all-women duo is behind the highly anticipated movie, The Zulu Wedding, and its book adaptation.
Briefly.co.za learned that the movie's director, Lineo Sekeleoane, commissioned journalist and author, Dudu Busani-Dube, to write the book version.
While the movie's release date was postponed indefinitely from April 20 for marketing purposes, The Zulu Wedding: The Book is now available nationwide.
The proudly South African movie depicts the life of Lou, played by actress Nondumiso Tembe, who was betrothed to a Zulu king in order to repay an ancestral debt.
Speaking to IOL, 36-year-old Busani-Dube said watching the unedited version of the movie made writing the book much easier. She explained:
I understood that there had to be something that separates the two without losing the storyline. It is usually the other way around where there is a movie adaptation of a book. I wasn’t really sure if [Lineo] was serious but I said ‘okay.’
Lineo said it was not easy getting the whole project off the ground, adding that she had to "sell everything" to even pay her team members.
She also explained why the movie's release date had to be postponed:
While we were extremely excited about the February release date, several new ideas started to take shape in recent months and we needed time to mobilise the right people to launch these initiatives. As such, we had no choice but to move the release date.
