The couple tied the knot when Herman was 22 and Connie 20. They are two of the most successful and influential people in South Africa.

They have been married for 35 years and going strong. They are a true power couple.

Mashaba is currently the Mayor of Johannesburg and Connie is the CEO of Black Like Me and Lephatsi Financial Services.

Connie’s beauty caught Mashaba’s attention during their teenage years. The couple tied the knot when Mashaba was 22 and Connie 20.

Mashaba and Connie have two children together, Khensani and Rhulani.

Mashaba is still as in love with Connie as the day that they met.

“We were still babies [when we met] and I am glad that we have survived 35 years.”

“I am praying and working hard to ensure I see another 15 years with her.”

The apartheid government had tried to bar him from establishing his business, Black Like Me, in the hair and beauty sector, when he was only 22 years old, but he pushed through and it is now one of the most successful South African beauty products.

Herman Mashaba and Connie launched Black Like Me with only R30 000 that they borrowed from two friends.

He said having a stable family life with Connie was the biggest part of his success story.

“Without her I would not have achieved even half of what I have achieved. We have both achieved things that we never thought were possible.”

Mashaba said he adored Connie’s strong character and her ability to challenge him.

“I am protected when I am with her because she is not going to allow me to be crazy.”

The two make up an incredible team and can be used to describe the definition of a power couple.
