- Dog Georgie and owner Charmaine Keevy came to the rescue of an abandoned baby
- Charmaine and her pup found the new-born baby in a storm-water drain
- Charmaine flagged down a passer-by to help her get the baby out the storm-water drain
We always see people out for walks with their beloved dogs, and perhaps you are someone who walks your pooches on a daily basis. What is not so common is to find an abandoned baby when out on a walk.
Local resident, Charmaine Keevy definitely didn’t expect to find anything quite so dramatic when she took her pup Georgie for a walk. A crying noise that she described as a kitten meowing alerted the duo to something in the storm-water drain. Charmaine bent down to take a closer look and discovered it was a baby and not a kitten after all.
Desperate to help the infant she flagged down a passing motorist to help her to remove the steel grate from the front of the drain so that she could reach the child.

The make-shift rescue team retrieved the baby from the drain and called emergency services who arrived and began treating her for hyperthermia. She was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment and has made a remarkable recovery. Briefly.co.za believes little Grace April, as she has been named, can look forward to a long and healthy life thanks to the kindness of some strangers who took the time to stop and help.
