- A 1-year-old baby and her caretaker have been kidnapped in Brackendowns, Gauteng
- Police say the caretaker took the baby for a walk on Wednesday morning and never returned
- The kidnappers have allegedly made contact with the family and are demanding a large ransom
A one-year-old baby and her caretaker have been kidnapped from Brackendowns in Ekurhuleni. The Brackendowns SAPS and Germiston FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) unit are investigating the matter.
Law enforcement officials say the caretaker took the baby for a walk at around 8:45 am Wednesday morning, but did not return to the family home.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the alleged kidnappers have contacted the family and are demanding a large ransom for the child’s safe return.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the child has been identified as 13-month-old Eden Laird by the Pink Ladies, who also issued an alert about the missing child on Wednesday.
Eden is described as having a small build, grey eyes and blond hair. At the time of the kidnapping, he was wearing grey tracksuit pants with pumpkins on the bottom of them, a vest with the words “granny sunshine” written on it, a grey and navy striped jersey and navy and white socks with sailboats on them.
Police's Lungelo Dlamini said: “At this stage, we don’t know what the motive for the kidnapping is but we’re following several leads to find the victims.”
Law enforcement officials have requested that anyone with information which could help police find the baby and his caretaker to contact them immediately.
