Be careful what you say and who you say it to. This is advice that we have all inevitably received from our parents at some stage in our lives. You never know who is listening and what actions your words are going to bring about.
It would appear that EFF Leader Julius Malema should have listened more closely to advice like this. He has become known for his fight for land expropriation, stating openly that he wants all land in South Africa to be nationalised and placed under the custodianship of the state. Added to this has been his demand for land to be expropriated without compensation.
Julius’ words in action
Many social media users have remembered the words of the EFF party leaders and laid the blame squarely at his feet for the unrest in Protea Glen earlier this week, and over the weekend. Julius is currently facing prosecution under the Riotous Assemblies Act. He is challenging this on the belief that the legislation is outdated and from the apartheid era.
Protea Glen saw the result of demands like these put into action where community members were outraged at land grab claims on their neighbouring property, many reacting and stating they were concerned about their property values if informal settlements were established next to their backyards.
Other comments pointed to the fact that Julius was quick to call for land expropriation, yet he is allegedly living comfortably in his suburban house.
Briefly.co.za recently reported on the: Illegal land invasion leads to unrest in Protea Glen. In the article, we gathered that: Unrest surfaced in the Protea Glen area earlier today as residents protested over illegal land invasions linked to the area. The community has stood up in resistance to a group trying to erect shacks on a vacant piece of land in the area. While the group claims they have permission from the landowners to use the land for their shacks, the community has opposed them and is refusing to let them have access to the land.
