Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona will return to South Africa for the COSAFA Cup as captain of the Zimbabwe team.
The tournament is scheduled for 27 May to 9 June in Polokwane, Limpopo province, Briefly.co.za learned.
Speaking to Sowetan Live, Zimbabwe's coach, Sunday Chidzambwa, said he will select mostly overseas players.
Team manager Wellington Mpandare said:
Obviously Knowledge being our captain is going to be part of this squad and unless something happens which might change the circumstances‚ he will lead the team in Limpopo and he has already confirmed his availability in the communication that we have had with him.
He added that COSAFA Cup will be used as preparation for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
27-year-old Musona is in his fourth season at Belgian side KV Oostende. He has scored eight goals in 24 starts.
Zimbabwe are COSAFA defending champions and will therefore enter the tournament at the quarterfinal stage.
In his last appearance for Zimbabwe, Musona scored a hat-trick against Liberia in June 2017.
