Prof. Thuli Madonsela, appointed as the new Chairperson of Social Justice at the University of Stellenbosch, has given her reasons as to why Corporate Social Investment is important.

Thuli was speaking at the 11th annual Trialogue Business in Society conference in Johannesburg. In her speech, she shared how CSI had made her dreams possible. She spoke of how her own parents, a farmworker and a domestic worker, could only afford to pay for her schooling until grade 7 and that, through securing scholarships and grants, she was able to not only finish school but also pursue a career that was her dream.

CSI unlocks generosity of strangers

Thuli added that CSI is important as it “unlocks the generosity of strangers”. She believes this will help the help unlock the democracy dividend. She believes this will help South Africans to have a stake in nurturing faith in democracy and humanity.
