A 61-year-old mother of four has returned to college to finish her degree while working three jobs to support herself and her family. She recently graduated along with her youngest son just before Mothers’ Day
Before returning to school in 2009, Jeanine Dinsmore hadn’t seen the inside of a classroom as a pupil or student, since 1974.
Briefly.co.za learned from a story she shared on facebook recently, that the mother of four decided it was never too late to seek education.
She has now graduated with a degree in childhood development at the age of 61, alongside her youngest, who is also studying at the same college.
“Most of the people in my classes, whether it was community college or here, are in their 20-somethings. I’m old enough to be their mom. Some of them, their grandma!” said Dinsmore who embarked on her tertiary studies in 2009, part-time.
While studying, Dinsmore worked three jobs so needed a very strong support system to help encourage her to succeed.
Luckily, she had raised her own best cheerleader. Her youngest son, Joshua, 27, was also attending the same college and although they didn’t plan it that way, the mother and son graduated on the same weekend ahead of Mothers’ Day this year.
