The beleaguered North West Province has come under the control of the national executive. This makes the North West the first province in the country's history to hand over control of the entire provincial administrative duties.
Most of the provinces municipalities have been taken over by the Department of Co-operative Governance.
The National Council of Provinces was informed earlier today of these development by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
This comes after weeks of violent protests against the Premier of the North West, Supra Mahumapelo.
Mahumapelo has placed himself on special leaver and appointed an acting premier, Wendy Nelson.
An Inter-Ministerial Task Team is currently investigation allegations of corruption within the province.
