- The DA is set on taking action against those who have violated the party's constitution
- It is a breach of the DA constitution to mobilise other political parties in order to protest against the DA
- Those member who have violated the DA's constitution face being kicked out of the party
Democratic Alliance members who showed open support for the former Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia De Lille, face being drummed out of the party.
Briefly.co.za learned that Bonginkosi Madikizela, the leader of the DA in the Western Cape, warned members who were seeking to gain support from members of other political parties for De Lille according to iol.co.za.
“When people join a political party, they agree to abide by the rules and the constitution of the party. I am quoting the DA constitution. Our constitution says that when a member mobilises members of other political parties to demonstrate against their own party, their membership will cease.”
DA members protested outside the Western Cape High Court in support of the embattled former mayor. De Lille was at the High Court to secure an interdicted against the DA for her expulsion from the party. Members of other political parties were also present outside the court.
Madikizela said that the identities of the DA members were known and the information would be referred to the relevant structures within the party.
“We know these people, their photos are all over the media. In a party we need discipline and we cannot have people who do as they like. The Constitution of the party is clear on this matter.
“We have identified these individuals, we will contact their relevant branches to find out if they’re still members, and deal with them. By mobilising with other political parties against their own is insulting the DA.”

The DA was left embarrassed when the High Court left the City of Cape Town in limbo after the court ordered the party not to fill De Lille's position after they reserved judgement on the matter.
