Making education fashionable: South Africa’s educated football stars

Soccer stars are known for their flamboyant lifestyles. Given the huge sums of money they make, it's easy to assume that they do not need education.

However, some players have proven that even if they make loads of money playing soccer, education is just as important.

Briefly.co.za profiles some of the South African soccer stars who have obtained higher education qualifications.

Tefu Mashamaite

The SuperSport United defender holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Politics from Wits.

Lehlohonolo Majoro

Majoro, or The Major as he's popularly known, has a National Diploma in Radiography Diagnostics from the University of Johannesburg.

The Bidvest Wits forward shared photos of his graduation on Instagram back in 2014.

Tsepo Masilela

The Kaizer Chiefs left back has a higher qualification in business studies, making sure he has something to fall back on as he approaches his retirement.

Jimmy Tau

Former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs captain, Jimmy Tau, had a highly successful soccer career.

He has now easily transformed into a businessman and soccer analyst at SuperSport thanks to his Marketing degree from UNISA.

Daine Klate

Klate has a whopping five league titles to his name, making him the most decorated soccer player in South Africa's history. He has an accounting degree to boot.

Michael Morton

The Amazulu midfielder holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Administration and Management from UNISA.
