- Nhlanhla's wife, Sindiso, was on a 4-month maternity leave after the birth of their baby
- He decided to lift her spirits as she returned to work
- He therefore paid for a billboard sign declaring his love for her
A doting husband paid for a billboard message to lift his wife's spirit as she returned to work after her four-month maternity leave.
Nhlanhla Nxumalo put up the sign along Amalinda Main Road in East London, Briefly.co.za gathered. It featured a picture of his pregnant wife, Sindiso, along with the message:
Somoya wam, Ngiyaziqhenya Ngawe, Uyathandwa (My soulmate, I am proud of you, you are loved).
Speaking to Dispatch Live, 35-year-old Nhlanhla said:
The idea was for her to see it on her way to work. She has been on maternity leave since December.
She was worried about leaving the baby behind and wondering if it was worth going back to work. So I wanted something that would distract her from thinking of leaving our baby behind with a nanny.
The electrical engineer expressed surprise at the amount of attention the billboard has been getting on social media. His aim was simply to cheer up Sindiso.
Sindiso, a lawyer at the local Magistrate's Court, said she first saw the billboard a day before resuming work. She thanked her husband, adding that it served its purpose:
I was really worried about leaving my child. When I went back to work, people were asking me how I am, but a lot of attention was on the billboard.
