Mzansi Twitter users have come down hard on Mamelodi Sundowns' star midfielder, Tiyani Mabunda, for seemingly thanking Prophet Shepherd Bushiri first before God.

Mabunda won man-of-the-match award after his side's 0-0 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday. He started his post-match interview by saying:

First of all, I would like to honour the grace of my father major prophet Bushiri.

Apparently, this didn't go down well with some fans. Some felt Mabunda accorded prophet Bushiri a higher status than God.

Others thought that the soccer star might even need to be saved from the controversial prophet's influence. Briefly.co.za compiles some of their reactions below.

Mabunda is a staunch follower of Prophet Bushiri's Enlightened Christian Gathering Church. His social media profiles are full of references to, and pictures of, the high-flying prophet.

On Monday, he responded to the criticism doing the rounds on Twitter with a post reaffirming his faith. See it below.
