- Ex-Generations actress, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, has shared her experience with dark skin
- She said people sometimes called her "unattractive"
- However, she realised that her dark complexion is "beauty personified"
Former Generations actress, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, has shared how she overcame negative perceptions about her dark skin.
Writing on Instagram, Sthandiwe said, "Everything negative was attached to my dark skin, everything unattractive."
Fortunately, she came to realise that her dark complexion is actually "pulchritude [beauty] personified" and that she loves it.
The popular actress continued:
I decided that it’s not my problem that people don’t see “me,” and that what matters is how I see myself.
This is the only skin I have and I am comfortable with its magic! So I chose to hear and respond to 'hey dark beauty, Dark Dindi, ndoni ya manzi.'

Briefly.co.za learned that Sthandiwe is directing a stage performance in August featuring 30 stories about people's experiences with their skin complexions.
She therefore asked her followers to share their stories with her because "your story might just be what someone else needed to hear."
Sthandiwe's followers responded with dozens of their own experiences.
One of them, Aluwani Ngidi, wrote:
I'm from a family of 5 children and the one blessed with higher level of melanin. My parents are light skinned. Growing up it never made sense to me as to why I was the darkest one in the family.
My mum used to [reassure] me a lot on how beautiful my facial features are. I guess that helped in rubbing off negative comments I used to get about my skin complexion from schoolmates.
Looking at myself now I have overcome misconceptions about skin tone, I love myself for who I am and will definitely choose same level of melanin if I had a choice.
